It's been a quiet start to the week. Let's get some stories going!

I have never seen any impropriety in any trading room, nor have I ever heard of such. Suggestions to the contrary are malicious rumour.

By defenition Arabian, aren't you in proprietary?

EDIT: Bugger... this was my 1,000th post and I had wanted to save it for something profound

I have seen it all kick off before. Admittedly it was Essex boys "what" started it so no suprise there.

i have seen it kick off more than a few times in STA's old office, there used to be one guy there who used to beat up a monitor every week.........£500 fine for each one.

Does the £500 include a new monitor? The monitors here are a grand each. So £500 sounds like a good trade.

yes the fine includes a new monitor, but they only cost the company £150-£200 each at the time.

I was once watching a trader kicking a football around the office. Without warning, a fat American trader grabbed him from behind and threw him into a desk. It was most bizarre as there was no warning whatsoever. After the deed, the American stormed off. Though he returned 30 minutes later to apologise. Very strange.

one trader @ STA lost his rag with someone and started shouting, knowing the walls were all false he decided to punch one, the one he chose to punch was the only internal wall that was made of brick, i nearly wet my self with laughter.

For some reason it always seems to be the IT guys who get the worst of it. I've seen a telephone thrown at one and a dot-matrix printer thrown at another. I've seen a fair few phones and dealerboards smashed to bits and a cricket bat put through a clock. Generally, though, people are very restrained and after a bit of shouting someone storms off and everything cools down. Much more physical damage gets done through horseplay than anger.

I've only really seen monitors on the receiving end of real physical trading floor violence...

From my experience it's the IT guys giving it out to the traders.

If a trader kicks an IT guy's ass then he gets no IT support.

If an IT guy kicks a trader's ass then it's tough ****.

I did once see some tech guys get the better of a trader. This guy was a bond trader and he had loads of spreadsheets running as well as his trading platform and a position keeping system. I think it was in the days of either NT or 3.1. A couple of techies came over to sort it out and he had a good old whinge at them:

Trader: This f**king PC is just a load of s**t. Look - it's f**king frozen again. How am I supposed to make any money with this ancient c**p when it just keeps freezing all the time... blah, blah, blah for a couple of minutes in the same vein.

Techie1: I think it's coz you've got too much open.

Techie2: Yeah, like your mouth.

That shut him up.
