What do you do when you go on holiday?

Does anyone ever leave trades active when they go on holiday, or does everyone close everything down and relax?

Either way, how many people go out of their way to make sure they have a way of keeping in touch with their favourite markets when they go away (on holiday, not on business)?
.... (I'm trying to restrain myself from adding "....you sad so-and so's", but of course, it might well apply to me as well :) ).
 
I was going to say get my end away..

Trading on holiday is for saddos. You trade to make the money to pay for the holidays.
 
I went on holidays recently and decided to relax and tune out. The day before I left however FTSE rallied and I sold the rally. I didn't check it for a few days but when my girlfriend was checking her email I logged in and whoooo! holiday paid for. Yeah that was a sweet surprise and I closed the position right away and celebrated. I didnt look at it again for another two weeks and enjoyed spending the money.
 
Yes, that's the kind of thing I had in mind I suppose. Or say you have a position that's already well in profit, and you adjust your stops to guarantee most of it, but leaving plenty of wiggle room for it to run if it wants to.

Wouldn't you be tempted to leave it going and "pay for the holiday", as it were?
And if you did that, wouldn't it drive you nuts if you didn't know which way it was going while you were away....? :cheesy:

I agree. I generally close all positions within the same trading session that I open them. But if in the most unlikely event I had a position open before going on a holiday I would most likely close it or put on a trailing stop, set and forget. IMO: There is something seriously wrong with the way you trade if you are afraid of missing a 'big' move whilst you are on holidays, but I get the impression it’s only amateurs who think this will happen. You are trading for freedom not slavery.

If pushed, I trade 4 hours for the uk morning session then take the rest of the day off.

Hate it though. History hasn't changed in a year since I been about.

Why do you want to see the same old relics in ANY part of the world.

History IS important. But you do not have to be there!

Time to relax for me. Although I'll pack a couple of trading books to re-read or try and learn something new from!

That of course, is the "correct" answer, Alpha Dawg, but what I wanted to find out was, whether, for folks here, it was the true answer. :cheesy:

As I'm nearer 60 than 20, I wonder what is the secret of their "success"? Ah, just realised, the clue is in "wallet"....
 
You guys want me to say that I take my laptop with me, don't you? Sorry, I'm no Livermore, who checked Wall Street while he was fishing.

The Missus would grab it and throw it over the wall!
 
I will be taking some winter sun in the next few days.
There has been enough trading for me when at work, so no trading when on holls, this is 100% family time, relax and enjoy the fruits of life.

I will be keeping a light tab on whats going on, but it will be an obsravaion.

Anyone who trades when on there hollidays really needs a reality check !

AND play hard.

So no trading on holidays.

It's all about balance, isn't it.

The one thing about holidays that ensures that you can never truly get away from it all is that you take yourself with you!

I wouldn't be inclined to take my laptop with me on holiday. But i suppose that a large part of this would also come down to your trading style/timeframe, responsibilities and what type of holiday it was - be it a week in a caravan in blackpool, or trekking through the jungle in Panama..
