Apparently Dan Zanger managed to make 164,000% return in 18 months - this is the unofficial world record (although tax receipts are there to prove it).
That is $11,000 to $18 million.
It was also written that after 23 months this figure had been turned into $42 million.

Actually while we are on the subject Larry Williams turned $10,000 (in real money) into to $1,147,000 in 12 months, in the World Cup Championship of Futures Trading in 1987.
Interestingly enough, his daughter won the same competition with exactly 1000% returns on her $10,000 investment, 10 years later in 1997.
