Self taught? Impossible!

Those that want to do something and put in the time will do it and will suceed. Gotta really want to do it, congrats to the guy!

I think most traders are self-taughts and that it's why only very few are profitable. But there are still some are profitable. I am self-taught but I can only claim that I am a profitable trader when I retire from trading with profits.

I have never had any direct mentoring/tutoring and I am 100% confident with my trading and investment methodologies, there is nothing new anyone can teach me.

If you truly believe that, you're destined to fail.

Doubt it. There is nothing new in trading, it is as old as the hills. I've been here long enough to see it in practice, the greatest majority of people are complete numskulls.

You think I'm saying that there is nothing new I can learn from the market...

I don't dispute that the same things which worked 100 years ago will work today, it's what i base my edges on.

No, I'm answering in direct response to what you said. There are people out there that you could learn things from. To say there isn't shows a huge ego and complete naivety - not a good mix for your long term trading prosperity.

Why do you believe that there is always someone 'out there' who knows more? There may be someone who does something differently to me, but to imply it is better or that I could learn from it is equally naive. My experience in this forum doesn't support your argument. I haven't learnt anything new here since about 2007...100's of new members per day, 1000's of new posts...same ol' same ol'...

So - you didn't learn anything from anyone, yet there is nothing that anyone knows that they could teach you?

That's confusing....

I'm not talking about learning from a trading forum! You need to broaden your horizons and talk to real traders. They're doing things on a day to day basis, which you could easily apply to your own trading, regardless of the type of trading you do. I didn't say "better" did i!? You saying there's no one out there that can improve your own way of doing things, is like saying there's no other lifeforms in the universe just because we can't see them!?

I met a guy on Friday - he's a customer and 'cause he comes to BKK a lot, we met up. I didn't know before we met but the guy use to trade on the floor of the CME....

Now, I always wondered who it was putting in big iceberg orders right in front of a steamtrain market on the ES. Seems like these guys step up and get run over time and time again.

So - my approach to icebergs is - they wont stop a trend but they will stop a pullback.

I just never understand why these people would stand in front of the market like that. I mentioned it and he told me what it was. He said - watch the TICK when it happens. What you are seeing there is one side of an index arbitrage program.

So there you go - a meet up with someone and get a brand new, usable bit of useful information. You can't stop learning in my opinion.

my take on this subject: is surely you can learn by yourself; but it will take longer to get there.

the best education is trial and error; but the problem is it cost a lot; time and money.

you can speed up the process by learning from others.

my understanding is that the term "self-taught traders" does not mean they didn't learn from anyone else. it means they went on their own and learned from books, seminars, forums..etc. without interacting directly with a mentor trader.

I view trading like performing a surgery. it will be hard to learn in your own.

I couldn’t care less if I never meet another trader in person. When you have a good grasp of what is what then all 'improvements' can only come from within.

If one thinks he knows it all, he has so much to learn in my view and not only in trading.

On the self-taught issue, myself I always been one (in different fields) and has given me the advantages to deal direct with the difficulties and the ability to affront the next problem with more sharpness.

Of course with any endeavour you need to relate to the best if you want to bring your game one step further.

Well you're going to look stupid then.
