Concentration

I've realised recently that one of my main problems is my poor concentration. I literally have the concentration span of a 5 year old! For example, when reading, I will read about a paragraph and then I'll start day dreaming and completely forget what I have read. This post, I've only written a few sentences but it's taken me about 20 minutes to write so far as I've had about 5 day dreams in between sentences! I'm starting to think I have some kind of medical problem! Maybe it's linked to my anxiety or something.... I really think it is holding me back though. I can never get fully immersed in a subject and do the necessary research and learning needed to become a successful trader. I need focus.

Sometimes I will make lists, to organise what I need to do it and when I need to do it, but I'll just sit here procrastinating before I start anything, and when I do start it I get distracted far to easily. I don't think I am lazy. I don't have this problem at work, although it's only bar work, I am considered very sharp and on the ball by the customers. Maybe it's just the reading/writing thing.

Anyway, I just wanted to know if anyone else suffers with poor concentration? And particularly if somebody has overcome problems with poor concentration. Is there any way to learn/develop concentration? Any changes in diet or supplements that might help? I think that good concentration/focus is a must for a trader so I think this is quite an important topic.

Well, thanks for reading. I look forward to any (serious) suggestions.

Sam.

This sounds exactly like ADD. You should go see a doctor. They will send you for test and then properly medicate you to help balance out your concentration

Yeah? You obviously don't know the NHS.............

ADD is a bit over the top ingot.

Megamuel, it's common. Everything that il Stronzo said above could help.

It may well be exacerbated by anxiety. If you want to improve your focus, you need to focus more.

I'd suggest meditation (not medication!). It will improve your focus and get rid of some of your anxiety. Helps me, anyway.

I find it hard focussing too, I also procrastinate. I log onto T2W to write a post like this one. Instead of doing what I should be doing, which is working on next week’s short list. That’s not so bad at the weekend but I will do the same thing during the week for my daily shorter list. It is just procrastination; I don’t think I should be on here at all.

Worst advice ever?

You obviously don't know anything about prescription drugs, which is exactly how much the doctors prescribing them know for that matter.

Avoid these poisons wherever possible, and poisons nearly all of them most certainly are. It might just save your health or even your life.

There was an article to this effect in the university magazine at the uni I go to. It was written by the counselling service. They surmised that it's likely to be internet addiction.

Perhaps you should talk to a counselor or psychologist :).
