If I can help some poor soul from throwing his money down the drain and wasting valuable time in avoiding financial loss I warn

DO NOT SEE THE RUSSELL CROWE ROBIN HOOD FILM!

It is the ghastliest spectacle that I have seen in years and I went because I like Crowe.

May he have nightmares for persuading me to see that one.

.... and he's given Robin (of the East Midlands) a Yorkshire accent. Apparently he got quite shirty when this was pointed out. On the other hand Robin Hood was a nobleman (before taking up wooded residence) and would most likely not have spoken Nottingham.

If Robin Hood was a noble man, he would have spoken French as his mother tongue at that time.

But can the film so bad? It's not just Crowe, it's directed by the guy who did Gladiator and Alien and loads of other good ones.... wossisname

Was the story line the same?

I heard it was supposed to be all different - with some guy called Robin Hood who fires some arrows.

May as well been Dick Turpin - but for the bow and arrow.

I thought Kevin Costner's Robin Hood was a bit of a stretch but still good imo. With a soundtrack worth dying for... :cheesy:

I am inclined to pick a film by its actors. I've enjoyed many Crowe films but I'll be more careful in future!

This film excelled in the impression Scott must have of English football hooligans on the warpath. Hardly a moment passed without it being accompanied by a load of louts taking some castle apart.

Hi

after Gladiator this was a very disappointing movie at best. I think he's a decent enough actor in the right role but this was not for him (in my opinion). It was quite a long film but felt even longer (much as I tried to like it).

Haven't any intention of ever seeing a film about Robin Hood. No reason why this story needed a re-make, not even by the great (sometomes) Ridley Scott. Remember he and Crowe worked together recently on A Good Year - dull film about a dull man that seemed to last about a year.

This film was about the beginnings of his outlaw career, starting with the death of Richard in France, with Robin, Little John and Will Scarlett (Scottish and Welsh sidekicks, just to make it UK stuff)). Legend has it that they all met in Sherwood but you know the film industry!

Anyway, this dubious group of patriots took the dead king's crown back to John and helped him unite the pissed off, taxpaying, British against the French. John, after the defeat of the French showd his gratitude by outlawing Robin.

This is where Errol Flynn comes in, but that's another story.

Maybe some nice twists in there this time round, but it wouldn't have been filmed at all if Errol Flynn hadn't already been there. Just sounds like Hollywood playing it safe as usual these days, re-heating an old dish and chucking in some curry.

I thought the BBC series was pretty good, if you didn't take it too seriously.
A yummy Maid Marion and a yummy (according to the missus) Guy Guisborne.
I think the Robin had a slight "Nottinem" accent.
And of course a hilarious Sherrif of Nottingham.

The BBC seemed to spend quite a bit of money on production for their Robin Hood - shame they got the script from some kids at a community college.
