This guy has been in touch with me with some similar statements to your message he sent you Nov. 2008. Was he bogus? Did you find out anything about him? What exactly went down?

He's a scammer. If you've sent him money you won't be getting it back. Don't send any more money to anyone else (e.g. Nigerian detectives).

How can we shut him and others like him down?

One way is to report his email address to the email company providing it. So in this case report it to Gmail who will then close it preventing him receiving messages to those he has sent this to.

Totally, completely and utterly amazing how easy it is to con people.

Seems like a pretty good correlation, the minute you dangle the prospect of a million or several in front of people the brain gets switched off and they wanna jump in your bed straight away.

You would be amazed just how easy it really is from some of the stories I have heard and personally witnessed. This includes friends of mine who I sat down and explained in detail why what they wanted to do was a scam and that they would lose their money. It made no difference because all they could see was an easy profit. It was as if there is an overriding switch that discounted any possibility of loss until it happened and even then they blamed some other reason as to why they lost the money. It is truly astonishing and maybe I will post the whole story at some point.

I really find these things pretty fascinating as they really show up how simply we're wired lol.

Risk / reward ratio isn't all that great tho is it.

I mean Madoff had a great run and all but spending the rest of your life in prison ?

Plus being reborn in some African slum in your next life cos of bad karma ?

At least he isn't a pretty boy so on top of all else doesn't need to worry about some guy developing a hankering for him behind bars.

Even more amazing that some guy looking like him and no charisma apparent from his public court appearances could swindle so many out of so much !
