GCSEs- meh!

i did myself the duty of looking at the chief examiner's reports for each of the subjects, finding out, on average which % you need to get garde A and A*.

LOL. whats the big deal anyway, in physics all you need is 74% to get an A, in english 68% to get an A, economics 87% to get an A*,73% in english lit to get an A.
this jelps to ease the stress off, knowing that my exam grades are being decided by the dumb people, woohoooh!

GCSEs though,they are utterly useless in trading terms, true?
 
Useless in employment terms, too. As a former employer, it was a real pain in the **** taking on school leavers as they had no ****ing clue whatsoever. And their basic maths and English was utterly ****. I wouldn't employ anyone below degree level for even the most basic jobs, now. This is not a singular experience.

Curious isn't it. And this is now after what?, 20 odd years of national curriculum?, OFSTED, extended nursery education, literacy hours, numeracy hours, after school clubs, etc.

i.e. after a period when the meddling by politicians into education has grown and grown, the results appear to have become worse and worse.

I wonder what that tells us.
 
Government thinks by giving almost everyone A-C grades will make them more employable.
I think even some degrees have been devalued.

Wait a sec. The results have got "better" but the result is far worse. :cheesy:
 
I know some absolute morons who got quite a few A*'s last year. My older brother is among the most intelligent people I know and he took his GCSE's about 15 years ago and only got mainly A's and B's. Its crazy. I also remember seeing a programme on on TV a little while ago where they got 16 year old GCSE students to sit the old '11+' exam (the one my dad made me aware of!) and they struggled, big time.

Good point :)

Like those Home Economics (or whatever it's called this week) lessons which are all about something called "meal planning" (and are probably the usual load of old baloney about fat being bad for you and fibre being good for you) but nobody learns to cook.

If Michel Roux were alive he'd be turning in his grave.

They are actually used as part of the propaganda, get good grades and get a good job so you don't end up like them.

The end point of the current school/university system is to turn out good employees/wage slaves/tax payers. A lot of brainwashing goes on, not just in schools but from nearly every where else as well.

At around age 14 onwards you are taught to focus on getting good grades so you can get a good job.

This may be a good thing for society as a whole but for me as an individual person it led to working for sustenance and being miserable with the usual grind.

You can become so mentally conditioned and financially dependant on this way of life it becomes very hard to break free. It took me years. Most people never manage it.

Its the 'make $$$$$$' that is the con.

Should be 'pay lots of tax and pay lots of interest to the banks'

Suck it up and deal with it - it's an insurance policy. Most of us did it and so will you, so you may as well do it well.

Oh, and of course they're largely useless for trading, but an aptitude for numbers certainly helps.

And most people will never make a success of running their own business, anyway. The easiest way of earning a decent living is by studying hard and getting a decent job. Besides, not everyone wants to run their own business or be a trader. Some people want to be a vet or a lawyer. And even if you want to run your own practice, you still have to put in the studying and get qualifications.
 
Yes, I learnt that things aren't as they seem.

Quite long (and boring!) but it really opens your eyes if you've been following a low fat eating regime.
