Maybe just get a new regime in to secure infrastructure contracts and fees for managing the pubic purse while the new boys get to milk it? Pipelines?

Is that because Syria has so much more pull than China and Russia?
I don't think that we should get involved in any more wars in the Arab countries. We have bombed Libya and I am not sure how the new lot are going to turn out. Does anyone else know?
What is the opposion in Siria? Is there any Western country that knows? They are, probably, a lot of tribesman who will finish up slaughtering each other anyway.
Can we say that we have done any good in Iraq and Afghanistan?
If China and Russia want to veto in the UN, let them, it will solve that problem for us. Has not the US vetoed resolutions concerning Israel?

That is the nitty gritty of it but, if we can avoid it, let's keep away from Syria unless, of course, the Arab countries want to pay the cost of the air campaign and no Brits get killed.
Its too early to know for sure, it wont be Switzerland but I think of all the countries that have overthrown their dictators its got the best chance of stability (by Arab standards).

Maybe you don't understand the history of the two.
They've been screwing up US plans in the Middle East for years.
Libya has a population of 5 million and about 300 tribes. My source works in some Arab bank in Barcelona and we talk whilst shaving in the gym! He may have exagerated a bit but that seems to be the gist of it. This is like all of these countries that are, or have been, dominated by a king or dictator. Bad as they are, they are keeping the whole under control. Tito did the same in Yugoslavia.
They need getting rid of, for sure, but what is coming after?
They have to do it themselves.

Superb post, absolutely spot on.
Brits died a long time ago. Look at the state of the Empire; doesn't look like any Brits really noticed the massive fall from grace to just a puppy followng big brother USA who, took the British Empire and exponentialized it to such a degree that it even grossed out and pissed off the Brits - but it is the same Empire, make no mistake about it.
Splicing the British stocks with the US stocks gives a nice clear looong flowing history, so the sentiment is intact, yeah baby it sure is just one Empire and dig this - it has topped.
China is licking its chops as it gazes at Europe and the feast that is sure to come as soon as big brother descends into economic travail and is beset with revolution of the masses.
And all the while China is just massively arming and spending to arm and arming while maintaining diplomatic ties and bowing and smiling ......
Lord it hurts to watch this changing of the guard in progress.
Well, I won't be here, for sure, but I'm afraid that nothing lasts forever.

Everything that happens is evolution and it cannot be stopped. It started with the Danes, Atilla the Hun, etc. hundreds of years ago and will keep on going until we wipe each other out. Which is what will happen, eventually.
Move on and take what you can out of life while you can.
Agreed. A 27-yr old fella, an outstasnding singer he was, died at that age too and he had your wisdom when he said, a long time ago, in the 70s I think,
