Love may be priceless, but apparently there is a certain price to pay before one can find love.

According to a study by Virgin Money, the average cost of the build-up to the first date is £190.00 for British men. Moreover, about 75% of the women surveyed indicate that they prefer their dates to have good looks rather than cracking wallets. As a result, men are spending £102.75 on average every month accordingly, while women’s bill tops £104.75. Plus the average cost of £109.90 for the first date, there is a pretty awesome investment before one even gets started.

Apart from the traditional nightclub scene, the Internet is now a favoured way for a person to look for his/her other half. A search with the keyword ‘dating’ in Yahoo! results in an eye goggling number of 35,700,000 related websites. Even restricted to those in the UK only, the number is still a whopping 6,700,000. So, business is definitely booming, and there is certainly no shortage in the supply of eager members for the Lonely Hearts Club.

One such website claims its online dating sites and affiliates span six continents and operate in 18 local languages and currencies. The company offers three subscription packages, 6 months for $13.65 per month, 3 months for $18.65 per month and one month trial for $30.95. And there were 240,000 subscribers last year alone. Well, not sure if I will find my true love there, but it simply looks like a way to go for profits.

Personally, after all the work of one day’s trading, I only wish to sprawl on my couch and relax with a good book, away from all the hustles and bustle of the dating business. But hormonal effects should not be underestimated. Anyway, wish all the hearts, lonely or not, to have what they want.
