I have an eons old Nokia with a tesco pay as you go sim card.(I`m last of the dinosaurs) I want to upgrade to a more modern pay as you go with e mail etc. Can I keep the same simcard ie phone number? Been offered an unlocked Iphone cheap but not sure as running costs are high i`ve been told. I only use occassionally .Went to a mobile shop and the guys looked at me in disgust after trying desperately to sign me up for a contract at £ 40 pm. Sorry for basic question but I just don`t use a mobile often.

Even if you cannot use the existing simcard what you can do is to port your existing number to a new simcard. To do this you will need to contact your service provider and ask them to supply you with the PAC code. This can then be given to a new provider who will then change the number to your existing one.

When you say you have been offered an IPhone cheap, how much was it and what memory level ?

i am not sure how it works in the UK but in america it is fairly easy to upgrade your phone. they can transfer all of your contacts over and you can still have the same phone number. but like you said, your bill per month is going to change. that is the only thing that you are really going to have a problem with. i have had a blackberry and an iphone and they are both great.

Same situation here - I now use Tesco dead cheap PayGO (only use the phone to locate her Ladyship when we go shopping & I don't do ladies' clothes) - ported my Vodafone number across to new sim no problem. (Several years ago now & I think I did it by email with Voda and freecall to Tesco). If you've got a genuine unlocked phone just swap the sim across.

PS. Got my last phone from Carphone Warehouse because all their non-contract phone come unlocked - unlike some of the other places I tried.

£120.00 8gb -unlocked.-very tempted but not sure about running costs.

Sounds reasonable, I suggest that you get a Tesco sim and go on their £15 a month contract that includes the "data" tariff as you will need it for internet related functions.
