Hello Everyone,

I would like to introduce myself. I am a fairly young single male from the USA. I have many different interests. However, this is a bad thing. It has caused me to never get good enough at any one thing to make any decent money.

My goal is to learn everything I can about the stock market, trading, and investing and to earn a decent living.

If anyone has any ideas for books, online videos, or websites I should look at please let me know.

Thanks.

Hi Telomerase,
Welcome to T2W!
Read the Essentials Of First Steps Sticky - this gives you a basic grounding in the subject and there are lots of recommendations for books etc. included as well. If you have any questions or comments once you've read that - then fire away!
Enjoy.
Tim.

Thanks. I will check out that thread now.

I just finished reading the book, "The Neatest Little Guide to Stock Market Investing."

Here are a few of my notes.

1) Ten bagger - A stock that grows ten fold.

2) Equities - Another name for a stock.

3) Point - A one dollar move in stock price.

4) Every 1/16th a point moves is equal to 6.25.

5) Round Lot - 100 shares of a stock.

6) Preferred Stock - Set dividend and stock holders get paid first.

7) Common Stock - What you get when you place an order.

8) Capital gains and Capital Appreciation - The profit you keep when you buy a stock and sell it at a higher price.

9) Dividends - Money a company sends out from earnings.

10) Declaration date - the date a company decides what the dividend payout will be.

11) Ex-dividend date - The date you must own a stock by to get a dividend.

12) Record date - The date the company looks at the list of shareholders to see who will get a dividend.

13) Payment date - The day the company sends out dividends.

14) Total Return - The money you get from capital appreciation and dividend.

15) Stock Split - When a stock is cut in price but you get twice the stocks.

16) Outstanding stock - Stock owned by shareholders and not the company.

17) New York Stock Exchange (NYSE)- The biggest and oldest stock exchange. Only the largest businesses are on it.

18) American Stock Exchange - (AMEX) (ASE) - It lists smaller companies. Five locations.

19) National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotation System (NASDAQ) (OTC) - No location. It's all computers.
