Hi,

New to this forum and trading. I've been toying with getting serious about learning to play the stock market for many years now finally at the age of 39 I am going to do something about it. I went to a free seminar by Marcus de Maria last night, promoting his two day course. I was impressed by some of his articles beforehand though have to say I was a little put off by his agressive sales tactics. Has anyone had any experience of his course? I'd be gratfeul of any feedback.

I'd be grateful of any other recommended beginners courses which I can look into. I'm based in London.

Thanks!
Tim

I have spent 9 years on FX markets and I have never head anything good about him. I mean I do not want to say he is bad- I just do not know him and the fact that his name is unknown to me and my environment tells something.

I wish you good luck with the course and I hope it will help you. I will be interested in hearing your opinion about him.

Exactly what I was gonna say. The name even sounds like a made up, spivvy name to me (but I could be wrong on that one).

Its funny how you can find out very little about these courses on the Internet.

You keep ending up at the Investment Mastery site or associated sites. Quite clever really.

I have been on 2 x Day taster sessions. 1 a few years ago, 1 a few months ago. The day is very well put together, lots of enthusiasm and decent guest speakers. Lets say that the sales technique has improved!!

The courses are aimed at the novice investor. It is an 8hr sales pitch. very well done in fact. utilising every technique in the book to get you to sign up for a 2 day intensive. It is not cheap...its would not be right for me to comment on cost, but its not cheap. What they offer are the 'keys to the Kingdom'.... which will ultimately involve a whole host of courses, monthly meetings, subscription fees and then the next course which is the 'intermediate' course - the gold & silver course - the spread betting course - the forex course.... At the end of the day they run a business selling courses - The keys to the kingdom are never attainable... These kind of courses sell dreams. They spend a huge amount of time on the power of compounding....'in six years you can be a millionaire' - dream makers!!

This is no reflection of the company, I am sure they generally want to help people invest. But as in all of these courses, it comes at a huge price.

If you need the help and guidance of traders, and are prepared to spend some money to get that help, then a course such as this could be for you. Marcus is a nice guy and the day is far from boring. But its an intense sales pitch, keep that in mind...

If on the other hand you want the basics and some basic strategies, buy some good books, decide what kind of investor/trader you are (all about the risk I suppose) and set up a virtual account... or, just put all your cash into high yield stocks, that pay you a dividend and sit back and leave your money alone....

As I say, I have been on the taster day (that costs too)... You will learn very little, well nothing that is not on the net or in a book!! - Like anything in life, if you a prepared to stick at things, have a decent budget and are willing to pay extra monthly for knowledge.. Then the strategies might be for you.... (which obviously you will only find out after signing up!!)

There are very few mentors and courses that are worth paying for, most of what you need to learn is available on the web and on this site, the rest is in your mind.

Very odd, the testimonials page of his website seems to have been taken down, the google cache is still showing. There are no trading related testimonials, they are all related to motivational speaking, wealth creation, NLP, the usual nonsense.

On another website he came out with this gem.

Marcus de Maria "Marcus de Maria, how to invest stock, free stock trading, share trading, stock market trading, free stock market, stock market guide, trading course, trading education, trading courses" - Business Networking on Ecademy

The truth is that even a complete beginner can make 3-6% a month (36% a year+) on their investments and it can take just a few minutes a day, or a few hours a month. No-one, and I mean no-one, cares as more about your money than you!

Of course we all know how easy that is in just a few minutes a day.

After going to the 'taster' - I tried to find anyone (apart from those at investment mastery) to give a testimonial about the strategies. I can't find anyone... It would be nice to hear from some of the 36% a year, every year traders.. Who spend 3 minutes on their portfolio..

All these companies do is keep taking your money, course after course, as well as monthly fees for stock tips (just tips) - and when you have nothing left and you can't commit to the terms of the money back guarantee (they have one! Which has so many conditions it's unreal).. That is the outer.

I would also say, my feelings on what I saw, that there are people planted on the taster course.. They do the whole 'only 5 courses at this bargain price' 3 people run up to hand over the cash... 'only 2 courses left... Come on' - funnily I watched people sign up and then asked if the price still stood... Outside the magic 5... Of course it was...

A very slick sales operation... Selling you a dream over 8 or 9 hours..

I can tell you that you wont find someone that has done that, perhaps you'll find someone that says they did it but of course they'll be in on the act.

How the f*ck did this marcus de maria character get my mobile number to spam text me. That's what I want to know!

SMS Spamming, that sort of thing tells you everything you need to know about a vendor.........

I think the original Thread starter gets our joint position clear on this vendor now ;)

save your money and invest it as time in yourself learning from the internet....its all here......just takes a lot of research time and experience and practice practice practice

He was on the TV last week. Nobody asked him what % of his "graduates" actually made any money. The answer is probably the same as in the real world. 98.5% of spread betting accounts lose money. Do his courses and you will probably end up losing more - you walk away with the false perception that you somehow now have an edge, in reality it's all in your mind.

The FSA should shut him down, if the press don't get to him first....

Well my post was removed from here. Just in case you missed it I was contacted by a nice boy called dean who works for this company trying to enrol me on one of marcus' weekend courses. I played him for about a minute then asked if marcus would make his wife available for me over the weekend. He laughed but I pressed home the point asking him to find out her sexual preferences. He put the phone down. I don't think I'll get another invite somehow. Some people are so wooden and unadventurous.

The FSA has no interest or jurisdiction on material classed as "educational" which is what this is. They only have an interest if specific instruments are being recommended for trading and where the person recommending them is not authorised to do so.

This maybe true, but morally something is wrong here. We are talking about a guy who sells advanced FX trading courses for £6k, who does not trade FX himself and wheels out a 23 year whizz kid to demo his fairly basic strategies you could find yourself on the net. Ask him how many people who have done the course have made any money using these strategies and he will not be able to tell you. The answer is not very many......I would hazard a guess that 98.5% have not.

Since when did morals and trading FX go hand in hand. Forex is traded by the most cold hearted evil calculating individuals. Farqin brasturds the lot on them. I suppose he also has the bits in the miniskirts as well to help him sell the courses.:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:(y)(y):whistle:whistling
