Hello, I have been trading now for about 6 months using a spread account. Thus far it has been a relatively interesting ride, having made some good returns trading FX, commodities and Equities. It certainly has not been all roses though, having learnt the hard way about taking on markets based on a fell, rather than solid data and experience. Being short oil at $111 was a character building experience to say the least. Curently I tend to trade a mix of fundementals and mometum type trades, with the occasional straddle. Having said that, I am pondering making a go of this full-time at some point in the future, once I have a few more scars. I feel I am reasonably well equipped, having studied finance at university, working for an Inv Bank and having a circle of friends who work in the markets.

All of that said, I realise I still have a great deal to learn and judging from some of the posts, there are some very experienced traders on this site (and a few rather amusing punters). I would be very appreciative of any advice any of you 'old hands' could give to further my progress. I certainly have some views on % per trade to risk, amount of account I need to trade with, money/risk management etc, however, still very early doors in my trading journey. One area I would like to hear on is some of your views on the balance btw fund and tech analysis. I have an appreciation for tech analysis, but feel more comfortable trading off fundamentals at this stage. I figure that all I really need as far as a set-up is a good pc with 3 screens, CNBC/BB, a good charting package and a decent real time news feed, i.e. Dow Jones etc.

Any views appreciated.

Cheers

Greg
