Hi Guys,

I was wondering if I could get some help on this, I’ve started as a Graduate in IT for an asset management firm and being there for about year now thinks its not my cup of tea and would really like to get into front office trading roles!
Being not from finance background, could someone tell me what it takes to get into the trader job. Currently doing IMC, SII and CFA certification as that would help me understand market better…….

Any help would be much appreciated….

If you already know everything academic about the stock market, then you only lack one thing to become a successful trader... a proven and profitable trading methodology. Period.

You dont need IMC
Try to do SII but dont quit your job, do it part time. When you get your SII Certificate try to apply to jobs in junior positions using i.e City Jobs UK - Banking, Accounting & Finance Jobs & Recruitment and then do CFA only if you get sponsored unless you are rich LoL.

CFA is usually used for investment fund manager not traders, but is always an asset

Guys,
Its been few months since I posted this message and I think I've made good progress so far I've done

1. IMC
2. SII Deriv
3. SII Securities
4. SII Regs
5. CFA L1
6. CFA L2
and on way to do SII Diploma....

I'm 24 and I recently got chance to speak to head of trading in one of the companies and he asked me if I traded for my own account and I said No because I'm not able to make time for it after my job!
The sort of job I do all I can really do is long only trades due to complaince.

can someone tell me how they start building their own portfolio? I've recently opened a/c with barclays stock broker.

Or is there anything more I can do in terms of qualifications to prove I can do the job!
