Difference between cash and futures markets

I was reading a John Murphy book this morning where he suggested that certain indicators (price action was given as an example) work better applied to the futures markets ?

Does anyone have any thoughts on the differences between cash and futures markets ? Am I missing something by trading on technical analysis in the cash markets ?

There can be some potentially meaningful differences - like the existence of 24-hour trading (or nearly so) for futures, but not for cash. It depends on the market.
