Have you ever read a book that changed for the better the way you view the world? Or gave you a code to live by? Or inspired you to become better than you were before?

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.

Has nothing to do with trading, but I found it very inspiring.

A Study of History - Arnold Toynbee 12 parts.....Seminal work.....out of print now....

"The Tao Te Ching" by R.L. Wing (the best and only good translation).

I've read and re-read this masterpiece over 100 times in the last 15 years and each time I read it I pick up a deeper meaning.
You can keep re-reading this book for a lifetime and keep getting new , deeper meanings.
This great work has been translated more than any book except the bible.

"The Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck has inspired a social conscience in me that is outraged by the continuing success of the modern-day orchardists, Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan Chase and their ilk. In the migrant camps of the 1930's, the Company Stores enslaved the workers with their easy credit and high prices.

Nothing has changed ... only the actors and participants, and those with the duty to prevent it/fix it are looking the other way.

If you want to read a book that should inspire something humanitarian within you, this is the one.

If you want to read a book that tells you how you can be something to help your fellow man, and yourself spiritually, look no further than the Torah, the Koran and the Holy Bible.

If you want to read a book that will show you how to achieve trading success, I suggest this one - "Licensed to Profit through Trading in Financial Markets" by Chris Shea.

"Chris Shea is a trader, educator and psychotherapist who specialises in coaching those who want to become and stay successful in financial markets. He assists clients to sustain superior returns by helping them discover and use their own approach based on their unique personality and talent.

Chris has an established track record in coaching clients to become independent, disciplined and very profitable traders. Coaching SuperTraders is his forte."

Review here - about halfway through the thread:

It has had a profound influence on how I view the markets and trading.

The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire by Gibbon.

Actually I just wrote that to try to impress everyone :jester:

"Left Foot Forward" by Garry Nelson. A year in the life of a centre forward at Charlton, basically plying his trade just below the top echelon. So close to being Mark Hughes he can almost taste it, except he isn't. I found it very life affirming. He wasn't like some chav footballer today, all consumed with lust for money, just an average family guy, who just happened to have an extraordinary day job. I found loads of parallels in it with my own situation and that made me smile.
