Is this a silly question to ask as most of you (STIR traders/TED traders) will not be willing to disclose your "real" profit of loss?

I would like to estimate on average what are the real possibilities?

(because I am thinking of leaving my job and start trading full time)

On average, i dunno, few grand a day if your any good after a few years. If your really good, you wouldn't believe how much you could make.

Hi i am doing 1400 to 1700 a week but i spread bet i dont know if you guYs class that as day trading or gambling

Your earning potential comes down to your experience, information quality and skill. The size of your trading fund has to be important and the amount of that you expose to loss with each trade - should keep it very low at start of trading less than 2% if you are spread betting for instance. Losses have to be contained to a level that don't damage your ability to trade either mentally or financially. You need to be calm and focussed.

Good to see you're profiting so quickly. Last I read, you were losing money like there was no tomorrow.

As to gambling or trading, that depends how your system works...

Are you using Jacko's system?

I average everything from 500 to 1200 pr day, using 2-3 contracts.

As mentioned above, it all depends on your skill and experience.

With kind regards

I would be very impressed by anyone making 1200 a day from 3 contracts on the stirs and even more so by someone trading TED. Very, very impressed.

On the other hand, OP, even now there's easily enough liquidity to make a hell of a lot more than that with bigger size... figures stoxx gives are sensible sounding.

How much do traders really make ?
Depends on there capital risk ?
As for daily/weekly leavels ? cant really say as I now trade the larger moves/swings as one can see by my postings.
For this year I will make roughly £80k
Last year was £46K
Year 2006 was £63K

If a trader works on how much per day/week he will trade to earn and will come unstuck at some point.

Best thing to do is aim for a yearly figure, my returns mainly come from September to January
so I can take it easy in the summer etc.

If an expienaced trader had £20k to play with It would be exepected to at least double this every year as a minimum requirement

But when income is taken out year on year the account rearly increases in value so one can earn big big money like city traders.

But city traders work long hoours and have bosses breathing down there necks, as for guys like us we can trade 2-4 times a week for 3-4 hours a day , now I know which one I prefer to do.

what is your background TomTom?

You recon you can make similar kind of money in recession if UK is heading into that direction?

Hi mart1ngale,
When the countries in ressession the market tends to stable and trend higher.
A for background, I trade for a living, not every day as i have rules for not trading, these are for me more important than the rules for when to trade.
It is not easy to earn money trading, however once expieanced one should be able to earn a reasnoble living depending on initial capital.

Compound income is brillinat, but what traders do not relise that a proportion of there earnings have to come out of the pot to live on.

I used to keep lots of £££ in one account, now have several accounts and each time I generate £££ I take 70% of the earning each month from the account.

Any losses on different acounts are replenished with earning from the wining accounts.

If there are losses on all accounts (not happened for years now ) Im in trouble.

A for stratogies and how i manage these accounts in real time, that is for me to know and you to find out M8 as years of hard work has been poured in to what is currently an income generating system and not to be disclosed to anyone.

Mart1ngale, I do this full time. One cant be sucsessful at this game by doing it part time. But DO NOT go into this light hearted. The Market will eat you up if your not educated or prepared .

Good Luck

tomtom

cheers for the tips. i am leaving my job full time and entering the world of trading in 20009.

what do you trade? you might have already told me this but i am currenly debating between FX and STIR. i have strong maths background.

either one is a good enough choice for independent traders but i guess you can make both of them as complex as you would prefer by having trading strategies.

but i would like to be good at one of them instead of being average at both. also i am going to be paying a bit of money for training. the STIR course is more expensive then the FX one.

do you trade at an arcade? or from a comfort of you chalet overlooking swiss mountains sipping hot chocolate?

look forward to hearing back.

marti.

I trade index futures through Direct Access, GlobalFutures.com Official Website - Futures and Forex Deep Discount Trading Firm
Have a risk stratogy to what your account can stand losses on any one trade.
The trick in this game is to preserve ones trading capital.
One can have 80% loosing trades and 20% winning trades and still come of with ££$$$ profit, its all about the money management.

I have many stratogies and techneques that I use, some are complexed some are simple example,
Place buy/sell orders below the prievouse days high/low
Trade the opening gap by the use of fibbinachi retracements.

Take it slow to begin M8 , when you have a loosing trade cut it, when you have a winning trade use stops and add to the trade apropiatley.
