Guys & Gals-

Have any of you recently tried to open an account with TDAmeritrade?

I did this last week and they told me they do not open accounts for UK customers.

I was a little shocked, as a few of my friends have accounts with them. So I asked them and they said the same thing. they could not open new accounts with them. lol If this is an improvement after buying TD Waterhouse, I'm not impressed. I don't want to start a thread to bash TDAmeritrade - so feel free to send me a private email if you've had the same experience.

I would welcome any suggestion of other deep discount Brokers in the US or outside that I could apply to. They should offer trades for less than $10, fast execution and would prefer not to pay platform fees if I can avoid it.

I have searched the following so far :-
TDAmeritrade = Not taking new customers from the UK.
Scottrade = Not open to UK customers.
MBTrading = Not open to UK customers

If you have any ideas other than IB I would be interested to learn of them.

Many thanks to all of you for taking the time to read this message

dont worry about it.

a few years ago i had an account with ameritrade.

i keep very accurate records of every transaction and i noticed a pattern in slippage that was too systematic to be random. after a few months it became clear they were pinching a few cents on every other trade, but only when i was exiting the trade. in fairness, it could have been knights fault who they sell their order flow to, but either way i would never use them again.

great when they were datek though......

elite trader have a good board with broker reviews on that is more us focused.

I opened my account with them in January and i have had no problems and they are very helpful indeed.

yep, or Man Financial & GNI worth checking out too - I've had an account with Velocity in the past and had no trouble with them either.

Yes for trading Stocks .

Thanks for the names you have posted so far. I could not open the http://www.velocityfutures.com/ website. But I guess they are futures traders only.

Still investigating the others.

Keep the names comming. But please try to make sure they are deep discount and will open account for people in UK.

kind regards to all of you.

Hi

I am looking for off-shore deep discount brokers for stocks that take new accounts from UK customers.

So far I have only come up with one
http://www.charlesschwab.co.uk - but they do not offer the cyber trader platform to UK customers.

Will keep searching to see what else I can find. In the mean time keep posting any ideas you have.

Thankyou to all who have taken the time to respond. also hope this has been of some help to others.

Best Regards
Jav.

Odd to say the least, I seem to remember reading not long ago the Ameritrade had just opened a customer sevice base in the UK. Are your friends who have accounts being dumped by them? In any case I would have suggested IB but I see you have a preferrence not to go with them. The only other one I can think of off-hand, and am not sure of the UK restriction is http://www.tradestation.com/default_2.shtm

I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that there is still a TD Waterhouse unit operating in the UK, the same would be true of the Schwab setup as Cybertrader is an online brokerage owned by Charles Schwab and seperate from the Schwab UK operation, prolly a scam to keep the extortionate prices all these UK brokers charge.
