If your not a tecnician of some sort please do not answer.I want to know why sometimes when i surf the net i can spend riduculous mb usage.Just now i loaded my broker's website and i used 60 mb on one website.

This happens every now and then if i'm not carefull i can use half my month's internet in 5m.Is it spyware some sort of virus?

Which browser are you using ? Also do you have things like Automatic Updates set on Windows ? I set my browser so that Javascript cannot run without my permission which stops autoplaying of videos etc which all use bandwidth.

If its a brokers site you will be continuously downloading updated info moment to moment. A lot of it will probably be adverts, possibly malware. It will act like a leaky tap.

Download limits are likely to be a thing of the past soon, they are impractical with content getting steadily heavier.

60mb from a single website seems a lot. An average webpage will be kb or only a couple of mb. Someone else mentioned adverts, all those flashy graphics and things are probably done in flash or silverlight and obviously carry a lot more overhead than just html. A brokers page will probably have a lot of these but 60mb still sounds a lot.

You do need to monitor it yourself though. Is it only certain pages that download more than a couple of mb? What is on those pages (any sound, movies, large images, animated adverts etc)? Beyond that there are 2 posibilities. The web page could be booby trapped, scripted to download software to your PC which is not likely to be good software or, if the heavy usage is whenever you are connected to the internet it is something on your PC. This something could be Windows update, legitimate applications you have installed may also call home to update or it will be virus/malware or some sort. You can download tools to monitor what applications use the net and where downloaded bytes are from and going to.

You're linked unwittingly to a dodgy site, probably using your system as a shunt swap fie centre for transferring files, usually under the counter porn. Get a malware checker soonest.

The problem is that a lot of websites today load over 1 MB for a single page. And if there is a video somewhere it can go over 10 MB easily. Also if you are limited of data, then you need to make sure you do not have any automatic downloads or update with your Operating System, and the software that you use.
