Hi I have been looking at the career advice threads on this site and they look to be very insightful.

I have been working in investment operations (back office) for almost four years now as an operational risk analyst for a top tier Investment Bank based in Glasgow. I am 25 and am really looking for a move into a front office role ideally in a commodities brokerage or trading area.

I have done well within operations where I was promoted to an associate last year, have good experience within the finance industry in general and have developed excellent trasferable IT skills in VB / C# programming and access database (SQL) development. I am trying to work out what the best next steps are in terms of my career as I feel a bit trapped within operations.

My education is as follows:

• I graduated about 4 years ago. I have a 1st class degree (Geography and Business ) – Not from a top 10 uni unfortunately.
• CISI Level 3 Certificate in Administration (IAQ) - Risk in Financial Services.

I am now thinking of doing CISI Level 3 Certificate in Commodity Derivaties and / or the CFA - can anyone advise on what the best route is for trying to get into the commodities brokerage business - are their any firms / trading desk that specialise in this area and would be interseted in a guy like me?

I am willing to work as hard as it takes to get a move into a more front office role although this does not need to be with the firm I am with at the moment.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
