Hi, I have 18 months trading experience in an arcade and am now considering moving to an investment bank or investment management firm.

The reasons for my move: money. Im a profitable trader within day trading. However feel I could make more money by leaving the arcade and working for a big institution.

I would like some advice please. Anyone here done this type of move? What are my career prospects if I leave my arcade job?

I have 2 questions for you

Why do you have to write everything in the title field?

Why do you have to comment at all when you have nothing sensible to say?

I am not sure what arcade means....... I am wondering if a prop trade firm would give you the right opportunity.

arcade is an office where you pay a fee (out of your trading profit) for desk rent, and trading software and are the then at the end of the month given a split of your profits as an income. you can be backed by the company's capital or your own.

is that what you see as a prop trade firm?

given your stated motivation of making more money, you should trade for yourself. you will always make more money v working for someone else. common sense really.

anyway, i could be wrong, but ive never heard of an ib engaging in the sort of spread scalping or taking a punt on ta that arcades tend to focus on. mostly it's either hft/market making or managing inventory. basically, it's like a great double glazing salesman (nothing wrong in that) trying to move up the food chain and sell aircraft to airlines or something. sure, both are sales jobs, but the skills are probably quite different.

good luck.

IB won't work.

HF *might* - suggest building up more then possibly starting one wtih some mates. There are specialists who can give you some seed capital given a decent record.
