A simple question that someone may be able to answer for me.

When someone indicates in a message that they are monitoring a stock movement and they say that 'the futures were advancing' do they mean that the futures for the underlying security were maintaining an advancing movement or are they refering to an index of some sort.

Thanks

Thanks tsuntsu

If I were tracking a nasdaq stock should I be looking at the nasdaq futures?

Presumably they add more guidance to the short term movements compared to QQQQ.

If so can you obtain this from a data provider such as IQ Feed.

I am not sure if all the stocks in the NASDAQ have the same weighting in the index, so their impact on it may vary. There was a time when Vodafone accounted for 40% of the FTSE 100 index. If the NASDAQ 100 is calculated from the market capitalisation you may find that the larger companies track the index more closely.
