Im new to FX, can you explain

1. short USD / JPY ??

do i open USD / JPY chart and sell USD

2. GBP / USD short

do i open GBP / USD chart and buy GBP

Short - you sell.

Long - you buy.

But if you are shorting a particular currency, you sell if it is first of the pair but buy if it is second.

So, if you mean you want to short the USD against the GBP, yes.

It's the first one of the pair that buying and selling applies to.
