Bandwidth & Contention Ratio

If I switch from a 512K 20:1 connection to 2MB 50:1 connection, is my best-case to best-case simply X4 and my worst-case to worst-case X1.625, or does it get a little more 'involved' than that?

Worst case scenario is losing your connection altogether - as Rossored will testify to - having been without a connection for over a week while they downgraded him from 2MB to 1MB!

I also upgraded recently at home to 2MB and I'm getting 256KB speeds, still need to sort it out. Seems like if you push the bandwidth too far, you can actually end worse off than when you started.

I disagree.

I upgraded from 500k to 1 Meg and then got a free upgrade to 2 Meg.

All without a hitch.
