What are everyones thoughts on changing the entry rules from 0.25% to 0.2, 0.15, 0.1 and 0.05%. I tried this on the data RTNs provided and it lead to increasingly higher points totals for both the FTSE and DAX. Obviously you'll get stopped out on more trades, but what are the disadvantages in...

Yep, looking through the rest of the data, there are a lot of inaccuracies. The problem seems to be in the formula that calculates the profit/loss. It needs to be amended but i'm not too hot when it comes to excel formulas!

You can SB the FTSE100 and DAX daily cash with Worldspreads - both have 2 pt spreads. JT, can you look at the dates i mentioned in my post above and let me know if the calculations are correct?

I was wondering if you guys could check some of the numbers in RTNs spreadsheet. If you look at the FTSE data and the period 19 Oct 06 to 23 oct 06, I don't understand how losses of 33,33,34 are calculated. Then on 02 Nov 06 the ftse opened below the short entry trigger but the system says long...

That's the DAX you're looking at. At the bottom of RTN's excel spreadsheet you'll see the tab for FTSE.

On the FTSE, the system has only made 2058 points from 02 Jan 2004 to 24 Jan 2007!

Hi Ben, I suppose what I was refering to was the market opening above or below your long/short entry trigger, or when you try to place your orders for the next day after hours and the SB company won't allow you to place them because they are quoting higher/lower prices based on their...

Yep. If you look at the spreadsheets posted by smccreedy originally and then updated by runthenumbers with sharescope data, thats's how the entry points were calculated. The issue i'm concerned about is the ability to get filled at these exact entry prices. It seems like it's impossible to...

Hi JT, the entry points are calculated as: +/- 0.25% X previous day close. When one order is triggered the other then acts as a stop, though i'm not sure what type of order you'd use for this. If you use limit orders would you then have to change the other one to a stop order manually?

    Getting filled

I was wondering if i could have your thoughts on this please guys. I'm fairly new to all this and i'm very interested in creating a mechanical system. I've learnt a few things (stay away from yahoo historical data for one!) but i was wondering how you would account for not knowing what price you...

So this system isn't workable in real life? It seems the difficulty in getting filled at the price you want renders it unprofitable. smccreedy did say that he hasn't had any probs getting filled at the price he wants thus far. Maybe he'd like to comment?

Thanks. Where can I get this historical real time data from?

    FTSE system

Hi Ben, thanks for the reply. I was wondering if you could answer something for me. When testing this system on past data, how do you know whether a trade is triggered just by looking at the high/low for the day. Wouldn't you need to see how price moved throughout each day in order to establish...

    FTSE system

Based on your numbers, the system is down 500 points on the FTSE since 20 June 06! Could this be a sign the system is no longer working? Or is this an acceptable level of risk. It seems if someone started trading this system last summer, they'd be wiped out by now.
