Updata TA allows you to scan a list of stocks for a number of candle patterns, and you can add yr own as well. Never needed to do that though as the ones that come with the system seem to be quite exhaustive.

I'd check where the air outlet holes are on your laptop, and ensure that they're not getting blocked up - if you have the laptop on a soft surface (such as a mattress, or a lap(!)) then the surface tends to mold itself to the base of the laptop, and if this covers the air outlets, the laptop...

Updata TA (http://www.updata.co.uk) is probably the best software around for P&F, both realtime and EOD. It also permits scanning for standard P&F patterns, so I'd say its worth a look imho of course

If you have an emergency boot disk somewhere, then try booting off it, then at the command prompt type in CHKDSK C: /R This should initiate a scan of your hard disk for errors. It's not necessarily going to be a major problem.

Suggestion for extra statistic I appreciate you're probably busy with the site move and so on Sharky, but might it be possible to add a few extra statistics to the competition? One statistic that I think might be quite inftersting would be a Drawdown and possibly from this a Risk:Reward...

How complex are the OHLC patterns you are looking for - standard ones like hanging man/bearish engufing, that sort of thing, or are you talking about longer term patterns?? It may well be there is already software to do what you want without reinventing the wheel. And what would be in it for...

If you're interested, you can do this with Updata MarketHawk - in fact you can set it to tell you as the breakout occurs. Alternatively the mention of one of their rivals might spur SS into some action :)
