My time with hotforex has been a total nightmare. I've experienced every problem under the sun with them, requotes, slippage, freezing charts with huge gaps, price spikes and the latest one, constant daily disconnections. Stay away.

I use talking forex and it is excellent imo, invaluable for the day trader.

prime trading hours are london open 8am - 11am and us open 2:30 - 5pm/6pm after that, you have US close 8pm -9pm, sometimes some trades come up then it depends on the action during the day, but don't expect much. perhaps you could trade daily charts instead? or there is the asian session...

moreliver: Finspreads say they offer 10p per point for 8 weeks. Can you confirm? Or is it 50p?

IG Index allow you to reset Tradesense after its finished if you email them. Also, Finspreads offer 10p per point for the first 8 weeks.

Ha it's funny you should mention that as I've just had another timeout! Hmm not good is it! RE the tax thing....from what I have read, what you save in commissions with spread betting, you make up with spread costs?....so I may as well just go the broker route then at least you get MT4.
