Thomas Cathey

Mr. Cathey was born in 1951 in Hartford, Connecticut. He attended Hartford Community College in 1970, majoring in psychology. He transferred to the University of Hartford, Ward Technical College in 1971 and completed his AAS in Electronic Engineering Technology. He later attended Central Connecticut University in 1975 as a business major. In 1977, starting with little capital, he founded Thomas Communications, Inc. In three years he built it into a national electronics retailer and service center. He has actively traded the commodity markets since 1979. In 1984, he became a stockbroker with Dean Witter Reynolds in Hartford. In 1989 with his partner Jeffrey Gordon, he started Gordon Thomas Capital Management, and Gordon Thomas Funds. The Gordon Thomas companies operated as an introducing broker, CPO and CTA registered with the NFA and CFTC. Since 1994, Mr. Cathey has focused on day-trading S&P 500 index futures, and long-term positions in options and futures markets. He continues to research futures day trading and options premium collection techniques.Mr. Cathey feels that becoming a specialist, by focusing on one small area is the key to trading success. Accordingly, he has focused on and cataloged hundreds of patterns and habits displayed by the S&P 500 market. His CTA specializes in managed day trading of the S&P 500/ E-Mini Index futures contract and collecting premiums by selling stock index and other options on futures.Mr. Cathey has written hundreds of educational articles dealing with the challenge of successfully day trading the S&P 500, swing trading and option writing.
