To be a successful trader you need to have an edge. If you don't you will lose money. This needs to be proven with sufficient back testing or with trading in a demo account.

I am similar I am always flat when there is large news coming. I also, close all positions with any new significant news.

I prefer to use soft stops. I like to get out at best price even if it is a loss.

Personally, I believe risk management and discipline are the most important traits of a trader.

I use Oanda and like it. I would recommend being careful during low volume periods as you can get hit with bad spreads. I prefer the core pricing to get the best spreads.
