Interesting, I've thought about the same thing. However you define a trend (pretty straight forward), either moving average, higher high higher low etc, or a combination, you could trade in the direction of the trend with just one order. You could also run a larger position size as you would...

Thanks for this. With regard to your comment above, today was a fairly good day too wasn't it? Also, assuming you're still triggering off the 0700 M30 bar, given that UK employment data is released at 0700 tomorrow, it's likely that the 0700 M30 bar is of large range. Are you planning to do...

Agreed, although we can work in from both extremes to what is a fairly clearly 'correct' range of stop sizes. Clearly 2 pip stops would be far too tight, you'd go bust before you got a massive winner (probably). 100 pip stops would be too wide - you'd need too much of the day's move to occur...

Yes it's been a poor couple of weeks for both the 0700 M30 bar entry and also 0600 H1 bar entry. I've been thinking about this, and have recently traded with wider stops which has given a better outcome than the narrow ranges that these entry methods (above) dictate. I'm not necessarily...

So, Monday was a no trade day for me, as much of an average day's move had already taken place before I got involved. Yesterday and today both good profitable days, which regardless of tomorrow (last trading day of April) will result in a good result for the month. This is despite not starting...

Yes that was just bad luck, just stopped in and just stopped out. It makes me think there is no ideal perfect entry trigger, since 2 weeks ago I got stopped out of a couple of good moves by 1 pip! Using the 6am H1 bar today worked out, I added slightly to the length of the bar to make R=20 pips...

Yes a -2R day, and a run of 3 loss making days. My thinking on discounting Mondays: If everything was equal, and there was no difference, by taking out Mondays you'd have only 80% of the trading days and (obviously) 80% of the profitability (or rate of growth) compared to trading 5 days/week...

I've been running this strategy for April so far, and thanks to Tom for starting the thread. I've experimented in the past with various breakout strategies, including a weekly version which tried to capture the week's move from the price either at 10pm Sunday night or 7am Monday morning. I found...

Would you give it a shot?

If you were confident you could make the profits you describe, then I think you'd be better off borrowing a bit of money and trading it up. After all, if you were trading a 10K account, and you kept your £400 and didn't pay it to them, you'd have covered a 4% draw down anyway, in comparison with...

    What is your edge?

So, does this answer the original question? Is this what you expected? Does it help?

    What is your edge?

Yes I agree with both points. Sloppy language on my part when I said 'fool proof', I suppose what I meant was something that was clearly profitable over time, and yes that can be far less than (a completely unrealistic, I get that) 100% hit rate.

    What is your edge?

Well, perhaps but at the moment I'm not actively trading since I don't think I have a method that I am confident in. I'm not confident since I can't see where the edge is - I mean a real edge that is an advantage over others. I mean, if I or anyone else in the retail trading world can come up...

    What is your edge?

Interesting question Tom which I've thought about a lot. Quick answer: I don't think I have an edge. I think it's probably one of those situations where if you had an edge you'd know exactly what it was. It has been said by people on here and elsewhere that (words to the effect of) 'any system...

    My new trading setup

Thanks. I did check for a DVI output as I have a DVI lead, but no, it hasn't got one. I bought a graphics card this afternoon which has VGA and DVI outputs which I guess would be fine, but the chassis of the PC is too narrow - I forgot about that, otherwise it would plug in  At least the...
