    Stops and Spread bets

I think it also depends on what you trade and how likely it is to gap down. I've had my bacon saved a few times with a guaranteed stops on small caps that unexpectedly announce profit warnings. Small companies will sometimes open over 50% down on even slightly bad news. Of course this is...

    IG Index

Yes, the new platform is a lot better. Much easier to manage and organise your screen layout (which it will remember). I like the multiple watchlists, which is useful for me. There seems to be many nice features, although nothing jaw dropping. I can't see any way to access sports betting from...

    The Challenge

Yep, i've been reading your journal too. I don't have any interest in trading bonds but your tale is enjoyable all the same. We all learn a valuable lesson by taking a big loss. Keep compounding those less ambitious wins and hopefully you'll be in profit soon. Good luck, I really hope you make...

Well I don't know for sure (I don't trade indices), but I would hazard a guess that it has something to do with cutover timing. You can trade the FTSE index all day. At 4:30pm when the markets close the index cuts over and the gain/loss is reset to zero. I expect this also happens at 8:00am but...

Spread Betting, what is the point?

The fact that you can also set guaranteed stops is also pretty advantageous. I know it depends on the volatility of what you trade and for how long you hold. But profit warnings and the like can often trigger a +50% price drop, typically when the market opens, thus making standard stops useless...

For me this has changed for the worse. I have a controlled risk account and showing the mid price was good as CR bets close at the mid price. So I could accurately see my profit/loss and proximity to stop loss. So they have changed the latest price field to the sell price, which I don't like...

Well I've not tried them. I looked at CFDs on igmarkets some time ago, but I think I concluded that the financing charges made them more expensive in comparison to sbets for longer term holds.

Yep, looks like they had a bit of an update a few days ago. There's a new check box that allows you to aggregates your open positions if you have mutiple positions of the same stock and period. Works quite nicely. Anybody noticed anything else of interest?

In the case of igindex (and all others I suspect) the answer is yes. You effectively build up a watchlist of the markets you wish to bet on. The watchlist shows you the real time prices being offered for buy, sell +/- on day etc Sometimes the price may not exactly match the underlying market...

Yes it was a small cap CCT - Character group. But I have made plenty of CR trades with smaller and less liquid companies than CCT. In the email they specifically said that CCT was over it's limit. However I have no idea how they quantify this, and I assume different stocks have different...

    IG Index Thread

Today I tried to open a bet on a stock via my controlled risk account and was told that I couldn't do it as "it was unavailable for controlled risk bets". I'd never had that happen before, so I fired an email off to IG. I had a reply within 10 minute explaining that the reason was there were...

    IG Index Thread

I have emailed IG Index on several recent occasions and have always had a timely response, usually within 1 or 2 hours. I've never had an automated response. Mind you I've never asked them to fix anything, just questions about their platform or a request to increase the point limit. On the...
