    Price Feed APIs

I query every second using a windows timer event, but I could use the same process to query at a much higher rate. I would expect 10ms should work provided that you don't have any single method/function that blocks the message processing loop for any substantial period. If you look at the data...

Reasons why Forex Traders lose money

Using a strategy which does not produce long-term profits, or to be more precise, does not produce enough to cover spread, slippage and interest.

    George Soros Trading method...

Are these the Soros viewpoints?, if so it is no great revelation as it seems to basically say that what you do affects the market and that in turn can effect how you behave. This is the well known concept of feedback.

    Price Feed APIs

I use the older MFC classes CInternetSession / CHttpConnection and ReadString method as I am more familiar with them, but I suspect they wrap the same API calls as the more up to date .NET framework (maybe I will get around to learning more about it one day). Technically I would not describe...

Trading Tip – Avoiding News Volatility

Good points and observations, I also have noticed from the correlation with non-farm payroll that news events for my crude strategy is overall bad, but on back-test it is hard to program in all the events to avoid them. I dream of 75%+ hit rate, one day I will get there.

Are these results good enough to trade?

Howard, thanks for the info, I will check that out. Pboyles, the average profit per trade is 7 pips including the loss making ones. The profitable trades make more than the losses on average so that overall there is a profit. I have tried to cut down the losses, but every time it reduces the...

Are these results good enough to trade?

I have been investigating forex trading for almost a year now and have at last devised a strategy that seems to consistently produce a profit during back-testing so that only one of the last 8 years would have seen a loss. It is a simple trending strategy based on a combination of technical...

    Price Feed APIs

Been running since 21/12/2010 and TrueFX seems reliable so far with no more gaps than say the data from Gain. Thanks for all replies.

How Spread Betting brokers make money?

I have been trying to ascertain exactly how spread betting brokers generate income in addition to the advertised spread and over-night interest so that I can assess the likelihood of making a profit in reality and avoid excessive direct/hidden charges that some may have. There appear to be many...

    EMA Crosses.... ?

Update: I have now done the analysis for a simple moving average crossing strategy and if anything it makes the results worse as it amplifies both the winnings and losses. Fundamentally the problem seems to be that increasing the stake after some profit results in larger losses when the price...

Just a quick fundamental question from a newbie

China does make USA seem like a paragon of virtue, but it also has its own problems. First is that it appears to be a collection of states to some extent run by an ethnic group(s). Inside that group the real power is in the hands of the communist party and those they favour. All this potential...

Just a quick fundamental question from a newbie

My problem with all this macro economic stuff is that is exactly how we got into this mess in the first place. After the market regulators had allowed the dotcom bubble to build up around 2000, the subsequent inevitable crash was averted by floating the world economies on a tide of borrowing...

Just a quick fundamental question from a newbie

Good points, US will have to come to terms with no longer being the single most powerful country in the same way that UK has had too after the second world war when ironically the US helped force the dismantling of the British Empire in order to free markets and resoruces for themselves.

Just a quick fundamental question from a newbie

I suspect that the issue is that there are several different processes going on at the same time and although the UK economy is still weak, the question is whether it is still a better bet than the US economy. Also the economy may be weak, but the view may be that increasing interest rates would...

£5k course then a salaried job (basic) using company funds - sound ok?

If you are genuine and not someone connected to the company pretending (wouldn't be the first time), then good luck to you. However, there have been countless schemes over the years and in the end they all ended badly for everyone except those controlling them. They follow the same pattern...
