We have been able to buy inexpensive intraday data for US equities since 1997 from this web site: http://www.kibot.com/ They also offer hundreds of historical market indices and indicators.

You can get ready-to-use text files with DOW 30 intraday quotes for $150. You can then later import that into a software and use it for charting or backtesting.

I use the data from these guys: http://www.kibot.com/ Its 1 min data (ASCII). Since most of my trading is done on 3, 5 and 10 min it works great.

Not free, but 1 minute historical data is available for over 840 ETFs, according to the web site below: Kibot, www.kibot.com.

I have been able to find a large collection of historical 1-minute data for North American markets at the following web site.
