    Future of TA

I don't really understand your question, sorry. I've been trying it in Ninjatrader. I'm a programmer so give me a pm if you need help with anything.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algorithmic_trading This makes me feel a little uneasy. Is there always going to be a place for the individual with these algo traders?

Steps like Level II, statistical anaysis of time series? Are the pros really that advanced?

Price, volume, Indicators etc. I've been trying to backtest the three ducks strategy that you have been trading Ninj with the 30 pip limit. Not quite got it coded correctly at the moment. Max

Thanks for the excellent answers. Would adding a volatility aspect to system design help to overcome the changes in market behaviour or would you have to trade the market in a completely different way when change happens?

    Future of TA

Technical analysis has its roots in the psychology of the market participants. It is the greed and fear among other things that can provide inefficiencies in the market from which to profit. The emphasis in the markets as time goes on seems to be professional institutional traders...

    Chart Question

CMC and IG will allow you to do that. Finspreads doesn’t. Alternately sticking with your current SB company, you can use NinjaTrader with openticks data. Both are free. Not the best but should get you started.

    Ninja Trader Strategy

Just installed Ninja trader, and I'm using it with free data at the moment from openticks. I was quite impressed at ease at which I could plug in my strategy and back test it. However I was not impressed when it told me my strategy wasn't profitable. :( I'm still undecided whether I should...

Does trend Following Work on Stocks....

Is the study of volume restricted to individual stocks? Looking at the volume data supplied by yahoo for the nasdaq index is just plain confusing. I can't seem to recognise any patterns. Do I just need to learn how to read it? What I understand about volume so far: 1: Increased volume confirms...

Does trend Following Work on Stocks....

For signs of accumulation would you just be looking for a level chart? Does volume give anything away? Cheers Max

Does trend Following Work on Stocks....

What a great read, thanks. 1000+ signals a year is a bit much though. What filters could be used to bring that down to a more reasonable amount? p/e ratio? Also the effect of dividens is stressed in the article, how do dividens work with respect to derivatives like options and spread betting?

    SB vs DMA

It looks like a lot of the pros are using direct market access on IB or similar. What is the advantage? SB is leveraged which will help keep the account smaller and most importantly tax free. I know there is talk of them doing sneaky things like requotes and delaying your order, but wouldn't...

    Longer term approach

Looks like I'm trying to push buy and hold too far. I think my options are to use small leverage and risk getting taken out or no leverage and buy dips or combination of the two. Cheers guys.

    Longer term approach

I was allowing for short trades. Both the long and the short would lose until a big move. I found that unless there was a big move waiting for the lower low followed by the lower high to get out or to short would quite often be below the original buy point. Using Dow theory can you have a hold...

    Longer term approach

Shadow - Thanks for the advice but I'm not looking for a system to trade. I have read fair bit and traded for a while so I have an idea what I would do if I were to trade again. I'm looking for a simple slightly more active than buy and hold approach. Bramble - I'm aware of dow theory but it...
