How do traders in 'arcades' make money? Are they just dealing on their own account? Do 'prop' traders just make money from the bid-offer spread on whatever they make a market in? Do they get a salary aswell?

Thanks for the replies. No, I don't know a great deal about derivatives but I understand the underlying. Where can I learn about them? Or rather who will pay me to learn about them?
