    £33k loss after 1 year

I plan to be a tattoo artist and am currently working in crappy jobs until I can save the money to put myself through tattoo school. Probably the furthest I could possibly get from any of my fathers career choices funnily enough!

    £33k loss after 1 year

I fully understand your concern and thank you for looking out for me, but without going into much detail the relationship with my father is beyond repair.

The whole point is that we were comfortable, we didn't need more money. He became greedy which is where it all went wrong.

Which is another thing my mother resented. It's bad enough losing your life savings, but the fact that everyone knows you have barely enough money to get by surely makes it worse!

Probably, money doesn't change someones personality.

If he had been successful I doubt the column would have been nearly as popular :)

I'd also like to point out that we were hardly wealthy prior to these events. We lived comfortably, not extravagantly.

I've read most of the posts on that forum, perhaps 'Masqeurade' should read some of them!

I actually find your comments quite rude and insensitive. A family breaking up for money is probably up there with one of the most stupid reasons, I won't disagree. However I do not recall stating that was the reason for the break up. A man who is self centred and indulgent enough to risk...

I can imagine.. I've just been trying to piece together exactly what happened while my father was trading, as only being 7 at the time I was too young to understand. My search led me to this forum and I felt compelled to say something.

As his daughter I can say he definitely hung up his "trading boots". His losses didn't just include money however, he also lost his family. Have to agree with you all.. What a fool!

What happened to John Urbanek? (daytrader/Sunday Times columnist)

Unfortunately I'm the daughter of John Urbanek, he gave up trading on a whim to begin DIY tool business which faired slightly better. Hope that helps!
