I gave up paid employment at the end of 1997, just before my 50th birthday, to trade shares for a living instead. Despite starting with very little capital, it worked. I trade small to medium size UK-listed stocks; many on AIM. I avoid exploration stocks and penny shares, but also avoid FTSE-100 stocks. Since my pension kicked in, my stockmarket trading has become a hobby but I trade almost every day. Mainly using spreadbets (via IG.com and Spreadex) but also a few holdings (via IG.com). My best gains are from downbets held for hours/days/weeks/months.
