Analysing patterns is not that easy. I found a system some months ago that was able to recognize such patterns but it was not robust : many misinterpretations. I will give you the link once I find it !

I think that automated trading and manual trading are not that different. When you trade manually, you have to define rules to tell you what to do in a given environment.
