    S/B DOW v SP500

Lead Index Just a personal observation you can benefit by watching Nasdaq Comp/SPX/INDU all at the same time as no one always leads. Sometimes one breaks support/resistance or breaks out of a flag/pennant ahead of the other two might pay to have all 3 charts up. PS: If you are trading a...

Cigar/Chartman - sound advice, patience, discipline, preparation and a plan is the way to go or else you will be throwing money away. Also good advice on the mental side of trading. A few well executed trades a week, with stop losses adhered to and good plan, will yeild more than diving in...

Do - What sort of preparation do you do before trading? Have you worked out your position sizing to control risk, small bets on high risk trades and have an entry point and exit point and stop loss point b4 entering the trade? Reading Chartmans analysis is a daily for me although I do not...

Hugh - got your tin hat on ? Just joking. Most of the traders I know of, work from the index point value, as it relates to the futures price, and use the index values to trade the spreadbet price in the same way as the futures traders trade futures based on the index value. So there is a...

Davie - The CMC chart tracks the CMC quote which is based upon the DOW futures, which are in turn related to the actual DOW index. The index figures are not a tradeable market instrument and the "cash or daily" quotes from most spreadbet companies are based upon the near month futures contract...

Ways of trading - Need advice.

Trading an index is usualy through futures, which the spreadbet companies base ther price on, and the DOW futures are often 10 or more points from the cash anticipating the index moving there. You could try the QQQ or other index tracking stocks.

Just my opinion but trading intraday using spreadbetting is more difficult to profit from than futures. But for learning without losing serious money whilst confidence is gained and losses and wins taken, it is a very good "nursery". Most people who participate do not seem to realise that the...

Hi Mr Charts "Why don't you guys trade electronically directly live in to Globex with instant fills and spreads of 0.5 point on Nasdaq emini futures ($10) and/or 0.25 point on S&P ($12.50) ? Why pay huge spreads to bookies?" Please could you post further info on this Thanks

Having read the last two posts it seems (IMHO) that this is more a question of wether you are spreadbetting or trading futures or other such instruments I think from what was posted the fall on the Nasdaq was worth 60 points and the Dow 500 points for a spreadbet trader. So the margin...

Just a question - does position sizing need to be added to the equation. My maths is not up to calculating impact of this, or even knowing if it is a factor, depending on trading style and system. A move against you of say 5% of the average daily volatility for the Dow would be a higher risk...
