2 spread bet or not 2 spread bet

I started with SBs. Good for beginners, but once you start taking it seriously it’s better to look for direct market access (DMA). You’re right, spreadbetting companies are like bookies. To a degree, they make their own price. Look for a CFD provider that gives you DMA. That way, you get the...

    Money managers

I would suggest steering clear. There’s a potential conflict of interest there – does it matter to them if they make you money? Are they more interested in their own fees? You’re far better off looking for an FX/CFD provider that gives you help and assistance on how to trade yourself rather than...

SB/CFD Platform to auto-calculate position size?

I have all of this on my CFD account with Accendo Markets, I do think there are others out there that do this too!

    Spread betting without leverage

You can but seems a little pointless. Just deposit what your entire exposure is. Eg if you're doing £1 a point long on the FTSE and if the FTSE is at 7000, You could deposit £7000 into your account- that will cover you if the FTSE drops to 0- so no leverage. But will that ever happen?

    Effect of CFD/Spreadbetting on market

Why don’t you look for a provider that offers you Direct Market Access trading? That way you shouldn’t get slippage when buying/selling positions. Of course this is only available with CFDs and only some providers offer this

How to screen for Geographical Revenue Exposure for free

Bloomberg is your best bet for this. I know it’s normally about £2k per month (which I’m not willing to pay) but my broker at Accendo Markets gives me this info (which I believe he gets from Bloomberg)

Thanks for the heads-up. I've always been very wary about using a non-UK broker. There seem to be plenty of new FX firms comign out of the woodwork in Cyprus at the moment, makes me nervous. I find there's seldom much between them in terms of spreads, so I tend to stick with UK brokers for...

    IGindex taking me to Bankruptcy

Sorry to hear that. If you think you've been treated unfairly, did you go to the FOS? If so, what did they think? I would imagine their terms and conditions are pretty rock-solid (very big FTSE 250 company).

    Help!

That’s an oldie! Most tend to do CFDs and/or spread betting rather than futures directly these days. There are big tax benefits. Might be worth a look?

    Old Share Certificates

Yes, you should be able to take them to a broker to 'dematerialise' them. I think most certificates have been replaced by nominee accounts these days. Try Hargreaves Lansdown - they'll probably be able to dematerialise the Certs and convert into a nominee account for you. I did some a while...

newbie question - medium term trading strategy

Trade without a stop loss seems to be your best option. Do a smaller stake than you normally until you get to grips with it all

    Forex SB/Brokers with rebates

Intertrader were doing it. Not sure if they still are.

    Alpari discussion and help thread

That’s right, but how do you know there wasn’t slippage, i.e. the market moved too quickly and/or was trading thinly in volume? As I understand it, FCA covers £50k when a firm can’t pay (for example, if they went bust), but not necessarily because you’ve been slipped!

FAQ How Long Does it Take to Make a Stable Income from Trading?

Spot on. For a beginner, I think this is good advice; ‘I suggest you first work out how not to lose money. Always know your outs..always. That means where to cut the losses.’

    ADS Securities UK

I had a friend who tried them. Nothing new. I prefer sticking to the established UK firms.
