Presumably they weren't making any money out of it or may be even they were making losses with it. Why? Their dealing model and mechanism may have been faulty or they may have had some big unhedged players taking out consistent big time winnings. Best thing for them would be to close those...

What do you expect? The trend has to end at every bend. The money is in the gyrations (eg index futures or index spreadbetting). :)

You probably have a point in that a few traders do seem to crave a lot of attention. Also I would add that this whole controversy is in itself a storm in a teacup. :)
