ok, so there's an instant reaction it seems - news which I cannot have access to quick enough. Would i be correct in thinking that after that initial drop - then the slight rebounce - there will be a further decline as the average joe finds out...?

How the hell does news travel so fast? An example today - bloomberg announces BP's deal in India is under threat by the gov. This was a news flash - a 10 second announcement. About 3 minutes before the announcement FTSE dropped 20sih points and BP's dropped about 40 before regaining slightly...
