US markets are closed for Good Friday, the report will still be released. Not sure about Euro markets though.
My advice would be to follow all 4 major index cons and decide for yourself which one you want to trade. You may want to trade them all and they all affect each other anyway. Some basic characteristics to compare would be tick size, price and average range.
Keep in mind that stops should not be set arbitrarily, they should be set at relevant levels just beyond important support/resistance in the form of price, ma's etc...arbitrary, extremely tight stops are useful for scalping but that's about it.
Your initial stop is a part of your risk/reward...
If you don't know the answer than you have 2 choices:
1. Find out by trading.
2. Research the answer by reading top traders (books etc...)
The answer will be the same.
Capital gains taxes on US futures are actually more favorable and easier to file than capital gains taxes on US equities...just do a google search...basically you just determine net gain or loss from year end totals.
If you want to daytrade without being restricted by the Pattern daytrading rules then you will need to keep your account above 25k at all times...you will need to have a cushion at first to accommodate losses...30K total is reasonable but expect to loose money without guidance. IB offers paper...

Update to my post above on 3-19-08:
Gold did indeed top and the ETF for gold (GLD) fell from a price of 100.44 closing today at 87.42 for a loss of 13%.
This of course would be a gain for you if you sold your gold or went short when I gave the alert.
