Reputable Market Making Firms in London

Maybe liquid offers better bonuses. Just a thought and in fact I have no idea. Though it seems silly that they are such a big market maker and yet do not offer competitive salary, then they'd lose all their good traders.

    Optiver Traders

Is that internationally or just in London? I would've thought each of DB's national branch would set their own intake numbers.

    Optiver Traders

Banks not hiring traders? Surely, the major IBs are still looking at grad intakes for next year? Correct me if I'm wrong, but a friend's been offered a position at Deustche (thought that was earlier in the year for next year's intake)

    Liquid Capital Markets Ltd

Hey guys, are liquid capital just market makers or do they engage in other types of trading as well?

Does prop trading kill your banking career?

Plus there are hedge funds out there that are purely fundamental-driven, so they have a buy and hold mentality instead of pure short term trading

    Optiver Traders

Its interesting that after the US put the short ban on a lot of markets around the world followed suit, despite the fact that there was a lot of clamour earlier on to ban shorting because the supposedly high profits hedge funds were earning- I don't hear too much the usual line about short...

    Optiver Traders

This is probably the worst possible time to get involved with trading. Though I have to say, it'll be interesting to see how smaller prop firms would fare in such circumstances compared to bigger competition.

If you're looking to go prop, get paid

Surely if your a good trader at an IB you'd be rewarded very well too?

Career Prospects After working for Firms Like Tibra and Optiver

Well, I wasn't exactly referring to Ben, I was comparing to a Managing Director at an IB. By the way Bambrouk, what kind of trading (I'm assuming you work as a trader) place do you work at? And what kind of experience has it been so far?

Career Prospects After working for Firms Like Tibra and Optiver

wow, this thread has certainly grown and covered a lot of different ground. I've just finished reading all the posts. First, thanks HoodTrader for answering my questions, have you made a decision as to stay at your current position? (by the way you mentioned someone who works with you used to...

Career Prospects After working for Firms Like Tibra and Optiver

to Hoodtrader, do you find that most IBs recruit from economics background graduates, and how easy is it to be recruited with a PhD in a non economics field, and do they prefer particular (perhaps more quantitatively based) PhDs over others. Also, what's the usual age of entry on a trading desk...

Career Prospects After working for Firms Like Tibra and Optiver

Yes, I totally agree with you. Being an upstart doesn't help. Getting answers is an important reason why I ask questions, as I've stated in my previous post I do not know a lot about funds/banks which is why I try to canvass as broad a view as possible and through overlapping perspectives gain a...

Career Prospects After working for Firms Like Tibra and Optiver

Thanks for the reply. Out of curiosity, have you worked or are working in one of these firms? You seem to be quite knowledgeable about them. Also, just to clarify a few points you seem to say that traders at an investment bank 'just buy volume'. I was actually under the impression that at an IB...
