market or limit orders for fast moves after the opening bell?

Paul, I agree but only because orders cannot be filled instantaneously. I mean i'm very comfortable "trading" the open when i'm literally doing it on paper and assuming that i can get in and out exactly when i want. not the first few seconds, mind you. from about 30 seconds onwards...

market or limit orders for fast moves after the opening bell?

Right. that's good to hear. And somebody has since assured me that my "paper trading" orders will take a lot longer to fill than normal as I'm obviously at the end of the priority line. thanks

market or limit orders for fast moves after the opening bell?

i only post occasionally, usually when i'm in a real fix such as now I’ve recently been brought down to earth using IB papertrading as I’ve realised that market orders can NOT be used just as a stock is about to fall/rise very fast, because by the time they’re executed the whole thing is...

    DayTrading US stocks

the "advantages" of uk stocks over us are purely personal to me, ie the fact that I've learned all about price and volume movement and formulated my strategy accordingly by studying them. I don't want to trade index futures as I feel careful stockpicking can make it possible to play only very...

thanks Nunrgguy I was certainly talking about daytrading, yes are you sure the spreads are wider in the UK? I thought that if I stick to the more liquid of the companies that make up the FTSE 100 there was not a lot to choose?? maybe I was mistaken? do you know if I have to pay stamp duty even...

Trading overnight gappers and early range breakouts

thanks for your reply, sorry, I meant to say "well above 25000" of course; I'm referring to the minimum amount you are required to have in your account by US law in order to be able to day trade US stocks (more than 3 trades per week). If your balance falls below this figure you have to bring it...

Trading overnight gappers and early range breakouts

i've been papertrading ftse100 stocks using exactly this style with great success for the last 6 months; I've developed a few rules based soley on price action that i follow mechanically and have been amazed at how reliable this is. Shame it wasn't with real money.. well I'm close to being ready...

    DayTrading US stocks

I'm in just about the same boat as BeM was 6 years ago - torn between daytrading UK stocks without the $25000 minimum and with the added bonus that all of my research and backtesting has been done on uk stocks - .. and trading US stocks with cheaper commissions and without the stamp duty. BeM...

    Uk shares for a living

Nunrgguy, were you addressing that to "tar"? are you just referring to the huge spreads in spreadbetting, or did you mean that spreads are larger for uk stocks than US, even if you trade through a direct access broker? and as for stamp duty, are you saying that i should avoid trading uk stocks...

IB now offers over 50 AIM shares on the LSE

hello I'd like to know whether I can daytrade the FTSE100 shares with an IB account. I'm weeks or even days away from opening an account somewhere; I've downloaded IB's TWS demo but it only seems to accommodate US stocks. (?) Do I need to open an account before I can papertrade properly, or is...

LSE commision/stamp duty from outside uk?

I currently live in Belgium (hence the flag), and plan to daytrade UK shares; will I need to pay "stamp duty" or an equivalent? or anything else that I might not have thought of? thanks

    Uk shares for a living

I too would like to ask the same question I feel confident that I've done the hard part, having backtested a simple daytrading strategy with consistent success for several months; now where do I go from here? My backtesting has all been done with (1) pen and paper using advfn.com free...
