The broker is based in the USA, but I get (I think it was) $4.40 per RT at Codex Commodities.com I don't trade e-mini's too often, so it might actually be less that that -- I don't recall exactly the e-mini round turns.

There are entire funds that use nothing but automated systems. They usually employ mathematicians to develop their algorithms. So yes, there are some out there. The real question is whether or not the system you're putting YOUR money into works or not.

Depends on what your needs are. If you trade a wide variety of instruments, then IB might be good. I just trade futures (mostly day trading, but sometimes long term position swing) and so reliable platforms and execution speed are more important to me (low commissions too, obvisouly), so...

For most people, I think trading currency futures is better that trading forex. Better liquidity and closely regulated, so less worry about crooked brokers.

I saw a bunch of great systems advertised online, but I think a ton of them got whipsawed during the market craziness of the last 6 months, so their performance record right now probably does not appear so great.
