Excel has in its Data ribbon section a STOCK button that allows the retrieval of stock prices in the spreadsheet. The problem is that this facility refreshes the feeds at most once every minute and is not very efficient as it conflicts with other user activities. Interestingly the new Excel Addin XLFeeds can display the live feeds of thousands of stocks auto-refreshed every second without a noticeable slowdown of other user operations. It can also display by-minute and daily historical series over several past decades that can be useful for technical analysis.
