I want to write off some share investments against my CGT bill. The companies are worthless(Control Securities and Tranwood were their original names ) as an investment now but I've heard that they need to considered by the Inland Revenue to have nil value.
Any idea where I can find such a list of companies from the Inland Revenue? I've looked on their website to no avail.
TIA.

Here's the list.

www.hmrc.gov.uk/cgt/negvalist.htm

However, it normally takes them ages to put anything on that list. My understanding (which may be incorrect and you should check this out with someone who does know) is that you can make an election if you think your shares are of neglible value when you do your tax return.

Hope that helps.
