Good and bad

I have been using the platform for US Crude daily bets for the last 18months as they offer a low minimum stake and reasonable spread as I try out my strategies.

On the good side I have not experienced much slippage.

On the negative side the instrument is often not available online, it rolls to the new monthly contract later than most other platforms which can be confusing when using different charting software. Day Trades are not rolled as on some other platforms.

Great Dow spread!

I have used them as my main broker for over a year mainly because of their low Dow spread of 1 point in market hours.

Great platform most of the time (see below) fast and easy to use.

Poor/basic charts (I get charts elsewhere) and when the market move fast platform strugles to cope.

Update 14/5/2012 Due to continued platform problems have currently stopped trading with them

City Index - Modern day pirates.

They are pirates - steer well clear!

On many occasions their system freezes until the trade goes in their favour.

No problems, good service

Have been using CI for several months for spreadbetting, taking both swing-trade and day-trade positions on FX markets. No significant problems. Some minor pairs occasionally go to phone-only dealing but that doesn't affect me. I can only remember one occasion where the platform was inaccessible as a result of problems at their end.

I have accessed and traded my account from four countries in three continents over the last couple of months with no connection issues.

I trade with stop/limit orders only and have never had any problems with fills. FX spreads have been narrowed lately which is good.

Good customer service and prompt withdrawals. Happy to continue using them for the forseeable.

Very poor Paltform - delays and crashes. AVOID these people!!!

Absolute rubbish. Having tried a few different platforms decided to go with CWA who use City Index as their platform and it has lost me a lot of money.

Crashes frequently (on 2nd and 3rd December crashed for over an hour at peak time 18:00AEST) with no phone support as they were blocked from complaining customers.

On many occasions having to wait up to 5 minutes for a trade to get processed! 1 or 2 seconds a pip is what is normal.

They have had to pay compensation to many people. Avoid this platform and look at CMC or IG.

City Index

Very poor product. Very limited instruments. Wide spreads. Unhelpful staff. Stay clear of this one.

Simulated Trading

I have tried CI simulated trading. Very, very easy to operate.

However, absolutely useless as a platform for trying out a trading strategy. Extremely limited range of shares and, more importantly NO facility for placing stops.

Having queried this, their reposinse was no change envisioned at the moment. Shame.

City index

Horribly wide spreads for some markets, although UK stocks may not be too bad.

Platform slow to load and some instruments keep going 'unavailable for on-line trading - telephone'. Account status very slow to access and sometimes unavailable.

At least they offer the chance to place a stoploss at the time of entering a trade, more than Cantor gives you.

Customer service good
